Teenager Accused in Mother’s Death Ordered for Psychiatric Evaluation

Kuala Kangsar:A 15-year-old boy with multiple disabilities has been ordered by the Magistrates' Court to undergo a psychiatric examination at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta. The teenager is accused of causing the death of his disabled mother, Nor Ainon Omar, aged 49.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the order was issued by Magistrate Azlin Zeti Zainal Abidin after it was revealed that the boy had a history of mental illness and was unable to comprehend the charges against him. The charge alleges that the teenager committed culpable homicide not amounting to murder, with the intent to cause death, under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code, which could result in up to 30 years in prison and a possible fine if convicted.

The incident reportedly took place on September 23 in Kampung Cheh Kati, where the woman was discovered dead in her living room. Deputy public prosecutor Nur Mirza Zulaikha Mohd Fadzly requested the court refer the boy for psychiatric evaluation, as he appeared in court without legal representation.

During the court proceedings, the magistrate inquired who accompanied the accused to court, but the boy did not respond. Consequently, no plea was recorded, and the magistrate issued an order for the psychiatric examination under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The case is set to be mentioned again on October 22, when the psychiatric report is expected to be submitted. Meanwhile, the boy's 44-year-old father has been remanded for seven days by police for further investigation, while the teenager was held for two days.
