TEKUN Nasional Disburses RM109 Million to Support 2,006 Entrepreneurs in Sabah

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) has successfully disbursed RM109 million through TEKUN Nasional to empower micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) entrepreneurs in Sabah as of September this year. This initiative aims to bolster the growth of local businesses by providing essential micro-financing support.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the funding has benefited 2,006 TEKUN entrepreneurs in Sabah, with a significant allocation of RM8.5 million directed to 207 entrepreneurs in Telupid. Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick highlighted that the initiative underscores TEKUN Nasional's commitment to empowering individuals, particularly in rural areas, who require financial assistance to expand their enterprises.

Since its inception in 1998, TEKUN Nasional has provided a total of RM10.84 billion in financing to 607,514 entrepreneurs across Malaysia as of September. Specifically, RM1.26 billion has been channeled to 67,248 entrepreneurs in Sabah, including RM37.4 million to 1,320 entrepreneurs in Telupid within the Beluran parliamentary constituency. The region, known for its rich natural resources, holds significant potential in agriculture and tourism, which local entrepreneurs can leverage.

Ewon Benedick encouraged residents to actively engage in the Informal and Micro Financing Scheme (SPIM) and other funding programs available through TEKUN Nasional. He emphasized the importance of participating in training and mentorship opportunities offered by agencies under KUSKOP, stating that business success is not solely reliant on financial capital but also on knowledge and entrepreneurial skills.

Additionally, Ewon remarked on the government's commitment to supporting MSME entrepreneurs, as reflected in Budget 2026, which allocates up to RM2.5 billion to aid micro-entrepreneurs nationwide.
