Telco Coverage Monitoring, Penalties Among Focus Of Dewan Rakyat Today

Kuala lumpur: The monitoring methods and penalties imposed on telecommunications companies that fail to provide satisfactory coverage, particularly in rural areas, are among the matters to be discussed at the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the matter will be raised by Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan (PN-Permatang Pauh) to the Minister of Communications during the oral question-and-answer session. This discussion aims to address the ongoing concerns regarding the quality of telecommunication services across different regions of Malaysia, with a particular focus on improving access and reliability in rural communities.

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad (BN-Simpang Renggam) will ask the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation to outline the strategy for making the ASEAN Energy Forum 2025 the main platform for attracting high-impact green investments. This initiative is expected to play a vital role in strengthening Malaysia's position as a regional clean energy hub, aligning with global trends towards sustainable development.

Chow Kon Yeow (PH-Batu Kawan) is set to question the Finance Minister on whether the Federal Government will share state tax revenue to support ongoing development, welfare, and social programs. This inquiry reflects ongoing discussions about fiscal policies and their implications for state-level initiatives.

After the question-and-answer session, the Dewan Rakyat meeting will proceed with the tabling of the Gig Workers Bill 2025 for its first reading by the Human Resources Minister. This bill is anticipated to address the legal framework surrounding the rights and protections of gig economy workers in Malaysia.

The sitting will then move forward with the second readings of several bills, including the Legal Aid and Public Defence Bill 2025 and the Atomic Energy Licensing (Amendment) Bill 2025, indicating a busy legislative agenda focused on legal reforms and regulatory updates.
