Johor bahru: Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching today denied allegations circulating on social media linking her to gang-related activities in the state and a road accident currently under police investigation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the DAP national vice-chairman stated that the allegations were false and baseless, emphasizing that new social media accounts had been created specifically to target her with these accusations. Teo, who has been in politics for 18 years and served as a Member of Parliament for 13 years, explained that the allegations were based on photographs taken in ordinary social settings and did not indicate any involvement in illicit activities.

She highlighted that the Johor police chief had already conducted a press conference, announcing the arrest of 13 suspects related to the case. Teo expressed her support for a thorough police investigation and reiterated her commitment to clearing her name.

Teo, also the Johor DAP chairman, addressed the issue of fake news, warning that anyone could fall victim to misinformation in the digital age. She urged the public to verify information received through social media before accepting it as truth.

In response to the false allegations, Teo has lodged complaints with both the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police. She noted the challenge of having social media posts removed, as the decision lies with Meta, the parent company of the platforms, and not all false information can be promptly deleted.

The controversy escalated when Senai assemblyman Wong Bor Yang filed a police report at the Kulai District Police Headquarters over the defamatory posts and unfounded allegations linking Teo and the DAP to gang activities.
