Teo Urges Clean Campaigning for Melaka State Election, Warns Against 3R Issues

Melaka:Political parties and candidates participating in the upcoming Melaka State Election have been urged to avoid materials related to 3R (religion, race, and royalty) issues throughout their campaigns. Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching emphasized the importance of maintaining clean campaigns, even as heated discussions may arise during the election period.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Teo made these remarks during the Deepavali contribution presentation program at the Arulmigu Mariamman Temple. She called on all political parties, candidates, and their supporters to refrain from raising sensitive topics, advocating for a campaign free of 3R-related materials.

The Election Commission has scheduled November 14 as the polling day for the Melaka state election, with early voting set for November 10. Meanwhile, Teo also addressed cybersecurity concerns, highlighting a recent system breach in Kluang as a critical reminder for government agencies and local authorities. Although the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has not received a formal request for assistance from the Kluang Municipal Council (MPK), Teo affirmed the commission's readiness to offer technical support if needed.

Teo cautioned against underestimating cybersecurity threats, noting the high risk of hacking due to the reliance on internet and cloud computing. She stressed the necessity of allocating sufficient budgets for cybersecurity measures and conducting regular audits. This follows incidents where public LED display screens in Kluang were hacked to show inappropriate content, prompting the MPK to apologize and launch an investigation. The council condemned the act and expressed its willingness to take legal action to protect its reputation.
