Kuala lumpur: A total of 851 temporary relief centres (PPS) have been completed in preparation for the Northeast Monsoon (MTL) season, which is expected to begin in the middle of this month. Terengganu Disaster Committee deputy chairman Datuk Hanafiah Mat announced that these centres have a combined capacity to accommodate approximately 214,392 flood victims.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hanafiah, who also chairs the Terengganu Infrastructure, Utilities and Rural Development (Disaster Management) Committee, stated that all PPS are fully equipped and can be operational as soon as flood evacuations commence. "In Kuala Terengganu, we have 30 PPS, Kuala Nerus (39), Marang (61), Dungun (107), Kemaman (99), Hulu Terengganu (162), Setiu (104) and Besut (249)," he detailed. The total allocation for PPS operations amounts to RM4.1 million, sourced from RM2.8 million provided by the federal government and RM1.3 million from the state government. This announcement was made following the Third Session of the Third Term of the 15th Terengganu State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Darul Iman.

Hanafiah also highlighted the efforts of the Terengganu Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS), which has undertaken cleaning and maintenance of the drainage system across approximately 1,200 kilometres throughout the state. This includes the cleaning of rivers, streams, and canals to facilitate the flow of run-off during heavy rains, as well as the removal of silt, garbage, and wild weeds.

Meanwhile, Terengganu Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) director Colonel Mohd Zul Khairi Shamsuddin confirmed that 800 personnel are prepared to assist in the evacuation and rescue of flood victims. "We are also ready with various assets, including 63 boats, 13 lorries, and 300 life jackets," he stated, adding that all assets were readied in October and are in good condition.
