Terengganu DOE Issues 27 Compounds, Notices for Excessive Black Smoke Emissions

Terengganu: The Department of Environment (DOE) in Terengganu has issued 27 compounds and instruction notices for excessive black smoke emission offences from January until today. Terengganu DOE director Hamzah Mohamad stated that the enforcement action followed inspections on 1,197 vehicles in 48 operations conducted across the state.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the enforcement action comprised 13 compounds and 10 instruction notices for offences under the Environmental Quality (Control of Emissions from Diesel Engines) Regulations 1996. Additionally, another two compounds and two instruction notices were issued under the Environmental Quality (Control of Emissions from Petrol Engines) Regulations 1996. Two cases were taken to court, each resulting in a RM3,000 fine.

The state-level 'Ops Gerak' operation, conducted at the Paka Rest and Service Area on the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2), involved 62 personnel from various agencies including the DOE, Royal Malaysia Police, Road Transport Department, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, and National Anti-Drug Agency. The operation aimed to ensure that air quality is preserved and remains clean and healthy for the public.
