Terengganu: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) busted a subsidised cooking oil pack smuggling syndicate operating in Terengganu and arrested four individuals, including a woman.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Terengganu KPDN director Mohd Mohd Mufsi Lat stated that the four individuals, aged between 20 and 40, were apprehended, and 3,400 kilogrammes of cooking oil packs, a Perodua Bezza, and a Daihatsu Delta lorry were seized during the operation around Hulu Terengganu district at approximately 9.30 am today.

"The raiding team stopped and inspected a lorry and a car believed to be involved in the misappropriation of subsidised cooking oil and smuggling activities in front of a house in Kampung Bukit Diman, Ajil, near here today," he said, adding that the total value of the seizures was approximately RM103,500.

He further explained that the syndicate would purchase cooking oil packs from various locations and temporarily store them at the house before selling them on the black market and smuggling them abroad. The four suspects are currently being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Additionally, the ministry has conducted 2,688 inspections as part of Ops Tiris 4.0 from March 16 to today, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals and seizures valued at RM415,837.62. This includes controlled items worth RM116,053.82 and other items valued at RM299,738.80.
