Terengganu To Compete In 34 Sports In Selangor SUKMA

Terengganu: The Terengganu contingent is expected to compete in 34 sports at next year's Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor. State Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Hishamuddin Abdul Karim stated that this includes 30 compulsory sports and four optional sports, namely silambam, Muay Thai, petanque, and one more to be finalized tomorrow.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Terengganu contingent is currently in the second phase of preparations and will soon enter the third phase, which involves overseas training. Hishamuddin emphasized the need for more exposure to competitions abroad to ensure other teams cannot gauge their strength until the actual day of the Games. The SUKMA Performance Committee, established after SUKMA 2024 in Sarawak, has started monitoring athletes' training and performance while planning effective strategies for the upcoming Games in Selangor.

Hishamuddin also mentioned that the state government stands firm in its decision not to send Muslim women athletes for aquatic events due to attire requirements that do not comply with syariah. He reiterated that Terengganu will not participate in women's aquatic events, and all parties involved have been informed of this decision. Also present at the SUKMA-related event was Terengganu State Sports Council director Mohd Syahrizal Yahaya.
