Kuala lumpur: The Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) is being emphasized as a tool for reform rather than a catalyst for political disputes, according to a statement from Datuk Azman Abidin, Political Secretary to the Prime Minister.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azman highlighted the importance of prioritizing the interests of the approximately 10 million depositors over political agendas. He stressed that the RCI should be seen as an opportunity to fortify the institution and address any identified shortcomings, rather than igniting old political conflicts.

Azman asserted that any necessary enforcement actions must be firmly grounded in legal frameworks and supported by robust evidence. He underscored the primary objective of securing TH as a reliable institution for future generations. The recent special parliamentary session presented a platform for Members of Parliament to debate the RCI findings, providing transparency for the public regarding TH's operations.

Azman expressed disappointment over the opposition's walkout during the session, emphasizing the importance of their involvement in advocating for depositor rights and the interests of Muslims in the nation. The RCI report, which was made public on July 29, detailed the management and operations of TH between 2014 and 2020, providing 25 recommendations for improvement. The parliamentary session was convened to facilitate discussion and debate on these findings.
