Kuala lumpur: Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow arrived in Malaysia tonight for a two-day working visit until September 7. The commercial aircraft carrying Sihasak and his delegation landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 at 8.40 pm, where they were welcomed by Datuk Rozainor Ramli, the Chief of Ceremony of the Prime Minister's Department.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan mentioned that he would meet with Sihasak in Kuala Lumpur on Monday. The meeting aims to discuss efforts to enhance security in southern Thailand and address bilateral issues between the two countries. Malaysia has been given the role of facilitator in negotiations to promote peace in the region, reflecting the trust placed in it by Thailand.

Mohamad indicated that the discussions would focus on the best approaches to implementing security and peace initiatives in southern Thailand. This visit is part of the regular exchange of high-level visits that highlights the close and multifaceted relationship between Malaysia and Thailand, two ASEAN member states.

Wisma Putra released a statement emphasizing the commitment of both nations to maintain close consultations and advance mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas. In 2025, Thailand was Malaysia's 6th largest trading partner globally and the second largest among ASEAN countries, with total trade amounting to RM118.57 billion (USD27.73 billion). Between January and July 2026, bilateral trade reached RM85.01 billion (USD21.13 billion), compared to RM66.95 billion (USD16.64 billion) during the same period in 2025, showcasing the strong economic ties and growth potential between the two countries.
