Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara Champions Proactive, Holistic Approach To Men’s Health

Kota damansara: Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara (THKD) is urging men to take a more proactive and holistic approach to their health by addressing key issues such as heart disease, cancer, obesity, and infertility before symptoms become serious. The hospital's specialists emphasize the importance of preventive care to avoid serious complications.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Consultant Cardiologist and Physician Dr. Haizal Haron Kamar highlighted that heart disease is a leading cause of death among Malaysian men, with poor sleep often exacerbating the risk. Dr. Kamar advised men experiencing symptoms like loud snoring or feeling unrefreshed upon waking to seek early assessment for their heart and sleep health, as sleep apnoea can lead to serious cardiovascular issues.

Consultant Gastroenterologist and Physician Dr. Rajesh Kumar Paramasivam pointed out that colorectal cancer often develops silently, underscoring the importance of early screening through colonoscopy. Early detection, he noted, is crucial for effective treatment and improved survival rates.

Dr. Reynu Rajan, a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon, discussed the serious health risks associated with obesity, including diabetes and heart disease. She mentioned that bariatric surgery can be a life-changing intervention for suitable candidates, aiding in reversing conditions linked to obesity.

Consultant Respiratory Physician Dr. Mohammed Fauzi Abdul Rani emphasized smoking as a major contributor to lung cancer, urging men to quit smoking and undergo early screening to improve treatment outcomes. He noted that lung cancer is often discovered at an advanced stage when treatment becomes more challenging.

Dr. Ruveena Bhavani Rajaram, a Consultant Gastroenterologist, Hepatologist and Physician, warned of the increasing prevalence of fatty liver due to obesity and unhealthy lifestyles. She stressed that untreated fatty liver could lead to severe liver issues, but early detection and intervention can reverse the condition.

For older men, urological health is another area of concern. Consultant Urologist Dr. Hemanth Kumar Ramasamy mentioned that while prostate changes are a natural part of aging, regular check-ups are essential for early intervention. Additionally, Consultant Urologist Dr. Muhilan Parameswaran highlighted the prevalence of male infertility, which accounts for nearly half of all infertility cases, and encouraged men to seek evaluation without hesitation.
