Kuala lumpur: Thousands of Muslims nationwide today participated in the Maulidur Rasul 1448H/2026M celebrations through processions and selawat recitations, commemorating the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad SAW. Held under the theme MADANI Dihayati, Ummah Diberkati, this year's celebrations brought together Muslims from all walks of life, as well as government agencies, the private sector, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, at the national level, the celebration at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Serdang was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, with more than 4,000 people participating, including procession contingents. Notable attendees included Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan, Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee.
Anwar emphasized in his speech that the appreciation of Islam should extend beyond Maulidur Rasul celebrations, encouraging the reflection of Prophet Muhammad SAW's teachings as a blessing to all mankind. He stated that the celebration should serve as a platform to instill spirit, awareness, and enlightenment among Muslims.
In Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah graced the state-level Maulidur Rasul Celebration at the Shah Alam Islamic Lecture and Muzakarah Hall. The event, attended by nearly 1,000 participants, saw the presentation of the Maulidur Rasul Figure Award to Hindon Abdullah, a prominent figure in the Muslim women's dakwah movement.
In Negeri Sembilan, the state-level celebration was graced by Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir and other dignitaries. The procession involving 4,000 participants was halted due to continuous heavy rain.
In Johor, Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi led a procession involving 5,000 participants. The Johor Bahru City Council emerged as the contingent with the largest participation.
In Terengganu, the Regent of Terengganu Tengku Muhammad Ismail Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin graced the celebration, presenting awards including the Ummah Volunteer Award to community organizations and activists.
In Kedah, Sultan of Kedah Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah graced the celebration, which featured Quranic recitations and the presentation of awards to notable figures.
Meanwhile in Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah and other royals attended the celebration, with awards presented to various Maulidur Rasul figures, including veteran director Datuk Rahim Razali.
In Melaka, Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam led a procession of nearly 7,000 participants. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh also participated.
In Penang, the state-level celebration saw awards presented to various individuals, including Rohaya Che Abu Bakar for the Qudwatur Rasul (Entrepreneur) award.
In Pahang, the Regent of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah graced the celebration, where former Pahang State Financial Officer Datuk Norzan Ahmad was recognized as the Maulidur Rasul Figure.
In Sabah, over 10,000 attendees enlivened the celebration officiated by Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman, with a procession from Padang Merdeka to the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).
In Kelantan, the celebration included the participation of over 20 horses and 400 participants, symbolizing the historical significance of horses during the time of Prophet Muhammad SAW.
