Kuala lumpur: Three crew members were killed and three others injured in a container fire aboard a vessel at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) last Friday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Johor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) reported receiving an emergency call at 12.23 pm. A team from the Iskandar Puteri Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 12.40 pm. The fire erupted during unloading work in the under-hatch area of Block 5 of the vessel.
The fatalities included a 59-year-old Malaysian man, a Filipino man in his 40s, and a British man also in his 40s. The injured consisted of a 26-year-old Malaysian man and two Filipino men in their 40s. 'All the injured were taken to Gleneagles Hospital Iskandar Puteri by the PTP ambulance,' stated Johor JBPM.
Initial firefighting efforts were conducted by the PTP Fire and Rescue team, which utilized two tugboats and supported unloading operations at Quay 118. A total of nine firefighters, a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), and a utility vehicle were deployed to tackle the fire.
