KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) — Three winners of the 2022 ASEAN Quiz Competition at the national level will represent the country at the regional level competition in Myanmar scheduled to take place at the end of the year.
The Department of Information Malaysia (JaPen) in a statement today informed that the winners were Sky Broxlyne Roy Maxwill from SMK Mat Salleh Ranau, Sabah; George Loh Ing Won from SMK Methodist, Sarawak, and Muhammad Adam Haiqal Shaari Ismail from SM Sains Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu.
Roy Maxwill was announced as the national level champion for the school student category while Loh came in second and Muhammad Adam Haiqal, third, with each taking home cash prizes of RM2,500, RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively, along with certificates and trophies.
The national level competition aimed to increase the knowledge and understanding of Malaysians, especially the younger generation, on cultural, socio -political, socio-economic and sports aspects in the ASEAN region.
Held from June 1 to 30, it was divided into two categories, namely for school children aged 15 to 17 years and an open category for individuals aged 18 years and above.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Fakkrudin Hasani from Kedah was announced as the winner of the Open Category, while Siti Aishah Abdul Rahman from Pahang finished runner-up and R. Gobinath Nair from Sabah came in third.
JaPen deputy director general (digital content) Hashim Bedu in the same statement said that the competition had received the participation of 54,796 individuals this time an increase of 16 per cent (47,091) from 2020.
The biennial competition is a major programme under the ASEAN-COCI Calendar (ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information) and entered its tenth edition this year.
