Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for four states and the Federal Territory of Labuan, effective until 1 pm today. MetMalaysia's alert includes expectations of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds affecting several regions across the country.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MetMalaysia released a statement at 8.55 am, highlighting specific areas expected to experience adverse weather conditions. In Pahang, the districts of Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Temerloh, Maran, and Bera are on alert. Johor's Mersing and Kota Tinggi are also anticipated to be affected.
The warning extends to Sarawak, covering Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, and Betong. Additionally, in the state of Sabah, the Interior region, specifically Kuala Penyu, is on the radar for similar weather patterns. The Federal Territory of Labuan is also included in the warning.
According to the department, these warnings are issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rain intensity surpassing 20 millimetres per hour, either occurring or expected to persist for more than an hour. Thunderstorm warnings are designed as short-term alerts, valid for no longer than six hours from the time of issuance.
