Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms across nine states, forecasting heavy rain and strong winds to continue until 7 pm today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MetMalaysia's statement, released at 4.30 pm, predicts adverse weather conditions affecting the states of Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Johor, and Sabah.
In Kedah, the warning covers Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Sik, Baling, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu. Meanwhile, in Perak, areas including Kerian, Larut, Matang, Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang, and Muallim are expected to experience the storm.
Kelantan's districts of Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang, Kuala Krai, and Gua Musang are on alert for thunderstorms, while in Terengganu, the districts of Hulu Terengganu, Dungun, and Kemaman are affected.
In Pahang, the warning is in effect for Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Temerloh, Kuantan, Bera, and Rompin. Klang and Petaling in Selangor are similarly warned, as are the areas of Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Bahru in Johor.
Sabah's interior districts such as Nabawan, Keningau, and Tambunan are under alert, along with the west coast areas including Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, and Ranau. The districts of Tawau, Kunak, Lahad Datu, and Sandakan are also expected to be affected.
MetMalaysia has advised the public to remain vigilant regarding the potential for flash floods and damage caused by winds and has recommended avoiding outdoor and maritime activities during this period.
