TNB Advises Prudent Electricity Usage During Hot Weather and Festive Season

Kuala lumpur: The public is advised to use electricity prudently amidst the ongoing hot weather and ahead of the festive season, when energy consumption is expected to rise. Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) said electricity usage typically increases during hot weather, particularly due to longer operating hours for electrical appliances such as air conditioners and fans.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, electricity consumption also tends to rise during festive periods due to the prolonged use of decorative lighting, food preparation, and hosting open houses. TNB highlighted that the combined factors of hot weather and the festive season may lead to increased electricity bills and potentially safety risks if precautions are not followed.

TNB has shared several electrical safety tips to mitigate these risks. It advises switching off the main power supply when leaving home and unplugging unused electrical appliances. People should ensure that electrical appliances are not exposed to direct sunlight, excessive heat, or flammable materials. Regular checks on sockets, plugs, and wiring for damage or looseness are also recommended. Additionally, TNB emphasizes the importance of ensuring Residual Current Devices are functioning properly and engaging only Energy Commission-registered electrical contractors for wiring or repair works.

For prudent electricity usage, TNB recommends setting air-conditioner temperatures between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius, arranging refrigerator contents properly, and using timers for decorative lights. It also advises planning appliance usage to avoid operating high-powered appliances simultaneously and limiting the use of water heaters.

Any electricity disruptions or abnormalities can be reported via TNB CareLine at 15454, Chatbot SARA on the myTNB portal, or through TNB CareLine's social media accounts. TNB extends its greetings for a Happy Chinese New Year, wishing everyone happiness, well-being, and safety during the festive season.
