Toshiba Introduces eFuse ICs for Enhanced Low-Voltage Power Protection

Accra:Toshiba Electronic Devices and Storage Corporation has unveiled four new electronic fuses (eFuse ICs) in its TCKE5 Series, designed to enhance the protection of power supply lines. These new additions are targeted at low-voltage applications.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the new products operate within an input voltage range of 1.7 volts to 5.5 volts and are packaged in the compact SOT-353F (UFV) form. The series includes four models TCKE501UA, TCKE501UL, TCKE502UA, and TCKE502UL. Toshiba began shipments on October 12.

These eFuse ICs are the first in Toshiba's lineup to support 1.8V power lines, making them particularly suitable for devices like Secure Digital (SD) memory cards. As electronic devices evolve to be more compact and power-efficient, the need for reliable low-voltage power supplies has become crucial. The TCKE5 Series addresses this demand by offering essential protection against overcurrent and short-circuit conditions.

The compact design of the series aids in reducing the printed circuit board (PCB) mounting area, which is beneficial for space-constrained applications such as wearable technology and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The series provides overcurrent protection by shutting off the output when excessive current is detected, and features a mask time to prevent unnecessary shutdowns from transient peak currents, thereby ensuring system safety and reliability.

Additionally, the TCKE5 Series includes both auto-retry models, which automatically restore circuit operation, and latch-type models, which need an external signal to recover. It also offers different slew-rate settings to accommodate various power sequencing needs. Toshiba plans to continue expanding its eFuse IC offerings to support a broader range of equipment.
