Hua mark velodrome: The national track cycling squad brought cheer after achieving Malaysia's 200th medal target by winning gold in the men's team pursuit event at the SEA Games Thailand 2025 at the Hua Mark Velodrome here today. The squad comprising Abdul Azim Aliyas, Muhammad Adam Hakimi Nazuan, Muhammad Hafiq Mohd Jafri, Muhammad Yusri Shaari, and New Joe Lau defeated hosts Thailand, who settled for silver, while Indonesia took the bronze.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the cyclists themselves were unaware that they had clinched the 200th medal for Malaysia. Their focus remained solely on giving their best performance in the race. Abdul Azim stated that the team had not anticipated Indonesia, their main challengers, would not finish the race. He highlighted the months of preparation put into training for the event, acknowledging the strength of the Indonesian competitors.
Earlier in the day, the track cycling camp celebrated additional successes by securing two more gold medals, enhancing Malaysia's medal tally. Muhammad Ridwan Sahrom claimed one of these golds in the men's keirin event, narrowly defeating Jai Angsuthasawit of Thailand, a 2018 Asian Games gold medallist, by 0.027 seconds. Norasetthada Bunma, another Thai cyclist, finished in third place.
The second gold from the track cycling camp was won by Nur Aisyah Mohamad Zubir in the women's scratch event, where she outperformed two Singaporean competitors who secured the silver and bronze medals.
