Track Cycling Trio Smash National Record During Men’s Team Sprint Gold Medal Victory

Hua mark velodrome: National track cycling trio Muhammad Fadhil Mohd Zonis, Mohamad Akmal Nazimi Jusena, and Muhammad Ridwan Sahrom smashed the national record on their way to the gold medal of the 2025 SEA Games men's sprint at Hua Mark Velodrome here today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, their time of one minute 0.520 seconds erased the previous national record of 1:02.077 seconds set by Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang, Josiah Ng, and Muhammad Edrus Md Yunos at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.

Muhammad Fadhil expressed satisfaction with their performance, stating that the team gave their all because it was the last day for track cycling. He credited their success to a month-long training camp in Chiang Mai and the continuous preparation from early this year specifically for the SEA Games.

The open track seemed to favor the Thai team of Yeaunyong Petcharat, Jai Angsuthasawit, and Norasetthada Bunma, who recorded a time of 1:00.720 seconds for the silver. However, Muhammad Fadhil noted that their rigorous training at the Cheras Velodrome prepared them to face the competition successfully.

In addition to today's gold medal, Malaysia secured the men's keirin gold through Muhammad Ridwan, the women's scratch gold by Nur Aisyah Zubir, and the men's team pursuit gold through Azim Aliyas, Hafiq Jafri, Yusri Shaari, and New Joe Lau. A silver medal was also won by Joe Lau in the men's point race.
