Pahang: A male trader lost nearly RM500,000 after allegedly falling victim to a part-time job scam promoted on Facebook in August. Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman reported that the 61-year-old victim was approached by an individual posing as a representative of an e-commerce platform and provided a fake link to register as a seller.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the victim was instructed to select products supposedly intended for sale in the European market and was required to cover the upfront costs in exchange for a 30 percent commission. The victim, trusting the scheme, made several payments totaling more than RM505,000 using his Employees Provident Fund savings and personal funds. Initially, he received over RM8,300 in profits, which convinced him to continue participating in the scheme.
However, as further payments were demanded without any additional profits being received, the victim realized he had been deceived. He subsequently lodged a police report in Bentong. The case is currently being investigated for cheating.
