Transport Companies Urged To Register For SKPS Without Delay To Enjoy RON95 Subsidy

Kuala lumpur: Public and goods land transport companies have been urged not to wait until the last minute to register for the Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS) ahead of the targeted subsidy for RON95 petrol, which will be announced by the Ministry of Finance soon.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali emphasized the importance of early registration for companies to benefit from the subsidy as soon as the targeted RON95 petrol subsidy implementation date is announced. He highlighted the current low registration numbers, with only 89 vehicles in Sabah and six in Sarawak registered, compared to an estimated 4,647 eligible vehicles.

Armizan advised companies against delaying the registration process, noting that obtaining SKPS registration and approval from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) is straightforward and can be completed quickly if the documents are in order. However, he cautioned that obtaining a fleet card from selected oil companies post-approval could take more time.

The call to action was made during the Sabah Students Convention, officiated by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. KPDN reported that from September 15 to the present, 1,790 companies involving 5,449 vehicles have applied for SKPS, with 164 companies and 249 vehicles completing registration. The ministry estimates that around 100,000 vehicles nationwide are eligible to register under SKPS for the RON95 petrol subsidies.

Armizan further clarified that the targeted petrol subsidy would be implemented nationwide, unlike the diesel subsidy, which is only available in Peninsular Malaysia while being maintained in Sabah and Sarawak. The petrol subsidy aims to benefit companies and shield the public from fluctuating petrol prices when subsidies are absent.
