Transport Ministry Pushes CAAM for Enhanced Drone Application System

Kuala Lumpur: The Transport Ministry (MOT) has directed the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to enhance its application system for drone usage, as announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook. He emphasized the necessity of regulating the expanding use of drones effectively and safely.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke acknowledged the current application process as overly manual and prolonged, with the potential to take up to 14 days. He noted that feedback has labeled this process as unsuitable and impractical. In discussions with CAAM, Loke learned that steps are underway to implement a digital application system by the end of the year. This new system would allow users to apply via a smartphone app, with approvals granted almost immediately.

In another issue involving 1,000 vehicles stuck at Port Klang due to a cargo ship fire, Loke stated that the ministry is acting as a mediator to assist those affected and to resolve the situation. A meeting was held at the MOT involving ministry officials, the ship owner, insurance companies, legal firms, and other stakeholders to find a resolution. The priority is to negotiate a more reasonable sum for the release of the vehicles, relieving the burden on car owners.

Loke assured that most of the vehicles remain in good condition at Port Klang, but clearance is required before their release to prevent future legal complications. The ministry is committed to facilitating the resolution of this matter while maintaining its role as a mediator.
