Trm labs: TRM Labs (TRM), a company specializing in artificial intelligence solutions to combat financial crime and national security threats, has announced the appointment of Ziqing Ang as the Head of Policy for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ang's new role will involve collaboration with regulators, policymakers, law enforcement agencies, and private institutions across APAC. Her focus will be on fortifying efforts against illicit networks and addressing emerging threats in the region. TRM Labs Global Head of Policy, Ari Redbord, highlighted Ang's extensive expertise in both public and private sectors, noting her ability to unite regulators and industry stakeholders to combat financial crime.
TRM Labs emphasized the growing importance of the APAC region for digital assets and AI policy, noting that criminal networks are leveraging these technologies to operate more rapidly and at a larger scale. The company reported a dramatic increase in adjusted crypto crime volume, projecting a rise from approximately US$123 million in 2020 to over US$103 billion by 2025. Additionally, investment scams were responsible for 62 percent of fraud inflows last year.
Ang commented on the pivotal stage APAC is at regarding technology regulation in the AI era, stressing that policy decisions made in the coming years will significantly influence the ecosystem's safety. With over ten years of experience in policy, financial markets, digital assets, and business development, Ang previously worked at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) for more than eight years, focusing on financial market development and reserve management before transitioning to the digital asset industry.
Ang's appointment underscores TRM's ongoing commitment to expanding its presence in APAC. This move follows the recent appointment of former MAS regulator Claudia Hui as Head of Compliance Advisory, APAC, as TRM Labs continues to broaden its policy and compliance operations in the region.
