Turkiye Assisting Malaysia In Efforts to Free Activists Detained by Israel

Kuala lumpur: Turkiye will continue to assist in efforts to bring home the nine Malaysian activists detained by Israeli forces while participating in the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and Thousand Madleens To Gaza (FFC x TTMG) humanitarian mission. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim made this announcement during the 'Himpunan Solodariti Bersama Gaza' event at Axiata Arena Bukit Jalil.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar shared that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkiye, through his foreign minister, conveyed a supportive message to Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Hasan, assuring that Turkiye will continue to aid Malaysia in these efforts. Prime Minister Anwar expressed hope that with Turkiye's assistance, the situation could be resolved, allowing the activists to return home safely.

Earlier, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan disclosed that Wisma Putra had reached out to Turkiye and engaged with United States Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in a bid to expedite the release of the nine Malaysians detained by Israel. The activists were part of a humanitarian mission aimed at delivering aid to Gaza.

Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCARE) chairman Datuk Seri Prof Dr Kamal Nasharuddin Mustapha reported that all nine vessels of the FFC x TTMG humanitarian flotilla were unlawfully seized by Israeli forces. Among the detained Malaysians were key delegates like Prof Emeritus Dr Mohd Alauddin and Astro Awani journalist Syafik Shukri Abdul Jalil.

Turkiye has a history of aiding Malaysia in similar situations. Previously, Turkiye played a crucial role in securing the release of 23 activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission, who were detained by Israeli forces after their vessels were intercepted in Mediterranean waters. The continued partnership between Malaysia and Turkiye highlights a collaborative effort in addressing international humanitarian concerns.
