Kota kinabalu: Police detained two suspects to assist in investigations regarding the discovery of the body of an 11-year-old girl, Nurjilya Abdullah, near an under-construction house on a bushy slope on a hill in Kampung Numbak yesterday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Acting Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman said the police received information from members of the public regarding the discovery of the child's body at 10:38 pm after she was reported missing since last Monday in the village.
"Initial inspections at the scene by the forensics team found the victim's body to be in a state of decomposition. Identification was later made by the victim's mother based on the clothes the victim was wearing when she was reported missing," he said in a statement here tonight.
Syed Lot said the post-mortem conducted by a forensic medical expert revealed the cause of death is believed to be due to injuries to the face and the back of the head, caused by blunt force trauma from a hard object.
He added that the motive for the incident is still under investigation, and the police are finalising the probe, including gathering statements from witnesses as well as related evidence.
He said both the male suspects will be brought to court for a remand application to allow the investigation to proceed, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Syed Lot also advised the public to not make any speculations or spread unverified information that could disrupt the ongoing investigation.
