Alor Setar: Two men were found burnt to death in a house fire in Tongkang Yard near here this morning. Kedah Assistant Director of the Fire and Rescue Operations Division, Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, Senior Fire Superintendent I Azhar Mohamad said the identity of the two victims has yet to be ascertained.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the distress call reporting the fire was received at 6.51 am. The fire involved a class A house, and fire and rescue teams arrived at the location approximately six minutes after the call. Initial reports suggested three individuals were in the house during the fire. Two male victims were found collapsed inside, while another adult male managed to escape unharmed.
Azhar Mohamad stated that 14 firefighters from the Jalan Raja and Alor Setar fire and rescue stations were deployed to tackle the blaze. Their swift response was crucial in managing the situation, though, unfortunately, two lives were lost.
A local resident, Jefri Ahmad, 51, recounted the moment he became aware of the fire. He was preparing for the morning prayer when he heard unusual noises resembling footsteps on dry leaves. Upon investigating, he saw the house engulfed in flames. Ahmad promptly contacted the Fire and Rescue Department and later learned about the tragic fate of the two men after the fire was extinguished. He noted that five people resided in the house, including the two victims.
