Kuching: The Sarawak government today announced a Special Financial Aid (BKK) equivalent to two months' salary for civil servants in the state. Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg revealed that this financial aid is calculated based on the last basic salary of November 2025, with disbursements scheduled for this month. The initiative involves a total financial implication of RM131 million.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the government has also planned a second-phase salary increment under the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), which will be effective from January 1, 2026. This seven percent increment will have a financial implication of RM56 million. Additionally, federal civil servants are set to receive a one-off RM700 payment in the first quarter of 2026, with an estimated budgetary impact of RM98 million.
Premier Abang Johari expressed hopes that these financial incentives will motivate civil servants to enhance public service delivery quality. He made these announcements during the winding-up debate on Budget 2026 in the state legislative assembly. Furthermore, the state government extended its gratitude to state public service retirees by announcing a one-off special payment of RM500 to each retiree, which will require an allocation of RM50 million.
In recognition of the role of media practitioners, Abang Johari announced a one-off RM700 incentive for private media professionals registered with the six media associations in Sarawak as of December 1, 2025. He acknowledged their significant contribution to Sarawak's socio-economic development through professional information dissemination.
