Two Motorcyclists Killed In Sarikei Accident

Sarikei: Two motorcyclists died on the spot while a pillion rider was seriously injured in a head-on collision with a car on Jalan Rantau Panjang at about 10 am today. Sarikei district police chief Supt Aswandy Anis reported that the deceased were Louis Asey, 58, and Nyaring Achang, 43, who were confirmed dead by medical personnel at the Sarikei Hospital, where their bodies were later sent for post-mortem.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a 58-year-old woman, who was a pillion rider on one of the motorcycles, suffered serious injuries to her legs and head, and was rushed to the Sarikei Hospital by ambulance. The accident took place when the driver of an Inokom Atos car, a 40-year-old man, was headed from the direction of Jakar to Sare. His car veered out of control into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the two motorcycles.

Both motorcyclists suffered head and body injuries, while the car driver was unhurt. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving. Authorities have urged anyone with information on the accident to contact traffic investigating officer Inspector Ahmad Mustaqim at 084-652 222 ext 279.
