TZE LIANG STILL HAS SLIM CHANCE FOR PARIS 2024 – BRYAN

There is still a slim chance that diver Ooi Tze Liang may join the national contingent bound for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

National diving team technical director Bryan Nickson Lomas said the 30-year-old Tze Liang could feature in the men’s 3m springboard individual if any of the qualified divers decide to withdraw.

“If any country which has already qualified withdraws, Tze Liang has a chance. Whatever it is, we will have to wait until Monday (July 8) to get a confirmation from World Aquatics.

“The additional slot depends on the World Aquatics’ calculations because the quota for diving in the Olympics is 136 athletes,’ he told reporters at the event to introduce Skechers as the national contingent’s official footwear for the 2024 Paris Olympics at Wisma OCM here today.

Tze Liang, the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games gold medallist, competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics and finished in 22nd spot in the men’s 10m platform individual.

Last week, Nur Dhabitah Sabri received an unused quota slot for the women’s 3m
springboard individual to accompany youngster Bertrand Rhodict Lises, who had qualified on merit for the men’s 10m platform event, to the Paris Olympics.

So far, 26 athletes have received the green light to represent Malaysia at the July 26-Aug 11 Paris Olympics.
