Kuala lumpur: U Mobile Sdn Bhd recently conducted a 5G collaboration project kick-off meeting with Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM), following the signing of a three-year 5G wholesale agreement in February 2026. The meeting marks a significant step in their joint efforts to advance 5G services in Malaysia.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, U Mobile's chief technology officer, Woon Ooi Yuen, mentioned that both parties are currently in the process of finalizing the agreement. U Mobile is reportedly on track to deliver its 5G network to TM, paving the way for enhanced connectivity services. During a press conference held in conjunction with the unveiling of U Mobile's ULTRA5G product, Woon stated, "We just had our first kick-off meeting yesterday. Now (we are) finalizing the agreement and we are on track to deliver (it) to TM."
U Mobile initially announced on February 25 that it had signed a three-year 5G wholesale contract with TM. This contract is set to provide end-to-end 5G Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) services to TM, reflecting the companies' commitment to advancing 5G infrastructure.
In relation to U Mobile's previous decision to exit the shareholders' agreement (SHA) with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), Woon indicated that the company plans to issue another notice to DNB to phase out its network. An official announcement regarding this matter is expected in due course. U Mobile had announced on May 14, 2025, its decision to exit from the SHA with DNB, planning to divest its entire 100,000 shares in DNB for RM100,000.
Additionally, U Mobile's chief consumer business officer, Navin Manian, revealed plans to expand the company's retail presence in Malaysia. "Two years ago, we had 10 outlets in Malaysia, and as of today, we have 32 outlets nationwide," he said. The company aims to increase the number of outlets to 50 by the end of the year, indicating a strategic move to enhance its market reach.
