London:The UK government has indicated that Harry Kane may be considered for a knighthood after his recent achievement of winning the Ballon d’Or.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the England and Bayern Munich player became the first English winner of the prestigious award in 25 years during a ceremony at the London Palladium. The Ballon d’Or recognizes the striker as the best individual player in men’s global football.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham congratulated Kane on his achievement. A spokeswoman for the Prime Minister highlighted the significance of Kane's success, noting that it comes seventy years after Sir Stanley Matthews won the inaugural award. She acknowledged Kane's influence on young players and expressed national pride in his accomplishment.
The spokeswoman also addressed the possibility of Kane receiving a knighthood, stating that while Kane's contributions to English football are widely recognized, she would not pre-empt the honours process. Kane's 73-goal performance last season for club and country earned him the award from French magazine France Football, joining the ranks of previous English winners such as Stanley Matthews, Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan, and Michael Owen.
