Sarawak: The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) plans to hold a workshop for media practitioners to enhance their understanding of the state government's new economic initiatives with technical elements. Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said the workshop would feature experts and technical officers to explain issues such as climate change, hydrogen energy, and the carbon credit system.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abdullah highlighted the importance of journalists equipping themselves with adequate knowledge beforehand, as the nature of their questions could indicate their level of understanding. He emphasized that the knowledge could be further enhanced through briefings by ministry officials on the development of the new economy, enabling media practitioners to produce more accurate and easily understood reports.
Abdullah stressed the necessity of close cooperation between government communication agencies such as UKAS and JAPEN and all media organizations. He pointed out that this collaboration is vital for strengthening efforts to convey government information to the public, believing that cooperation between UKAS at the state level and JAPEN as a federal agency with all media organizations is essential to build a good rapport.
He also addressed the growing demand for a more inclusive and friendly communication approach between government agencies and the media, particularly due to Sarawak's wide geographical area and the need to reach rural communities. Highlighting the challenges posed by Sarawak's vastness, Abdullah noted the difficulties in being present in every place simultaneously, especially when events or incidents occur in the far corners of the state.
