UMNO General Assembly: No Motions Received To Withdraw From Unity Govt – Asyraf Wajdi

Kuala lumpur: UMNO has received 662 motions from 175 divisions ahead of next week's 2025 UMNO General Assembly, with notably no motions proposing that the party withdraw from the Unity Government.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki stated that these motions were gathered from the UMNO Division conferences held last year, involving 175 out of a total of 191 divisions, with Perak recording the highest number of motions at 133. The motions primarily focus on politics, religion, education, and the economy. Among the most frequently submitted motions by the divisions is the demand for justice and a full pardon for Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, he mentioned during a press conference held today.

The 2025 UMNO General Assembly is scheduled from January 14 to 17 at the World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur, having been postponed twice previously to make way for party preparations for the 17th Sabah State Election. Asyraf Wajdi noted that the UMNO Divisions did not submit any motions regarding cooperation with other political parties, including PAS, and added that the party will not prevent any spokesperson from expressing views or grassroots sentiments during the debates.

Asyraf Wajdi further clarified that 6,412 delegates have registered for the assembly, comprising 2,928 for the main General Assembly, 1,165 for the Wanita wing, 1,173 for the Youth wing, and 1,146 for the Puteri wing. Representatives from MCA, MIC, and Friends of Barisan Nasional have confirmed their attendance for the opening ceremony. However, no representatives from other parties within the Unity Government were invited to the assembly as the focus remains on internal party matters, allowing UMNO delegates and wing spokespersons to openly voice their opinions.

The assembly will commence on January 13 with several preliminary programmes involving academic discourse, education, and party empowerment, including the Mutaqqaf Ilmuan Islam (Islamic Scholars Forum), the UMNO Patriotic School Convocation, and the Digital Era Political Symposium. The simultaneous opening of the Wanita, Youth, and Puteri General Assemblies is set for January 14 at Dewan Merdeka, followed by the respective wing conferences the next day. The main UMNO General Assembly will officially begin on January 16 with the flag-raising ceremony, followed by the UMNO President's policy speech and subsequent debate sessions.
