Kuala lumpur: UMNO welcomes the Cabinet's decision to withdraw the tabling of the Urban Renewal Bill (URA) in Parliament. UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki stated that the party maintains its stance of supporting urban development but emphasized the necessity for the Bill to undergo improvements and refinement.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Asyraf highlighted that several amendments should align with the proposals suggested by the UMNO Special Committee on the URA, led by vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. He insisted that the URA should only be reintroduced in Parliament after all suggested enhancements have been carefully considered.
He further mentioned that the committee had orchestrated a series of engagement sessions, prominently featuring the Urban Renewal Convention on October 3 of last year. This convention resulted in the approval of 14 recommendations aimed at improving the Bill for the government to contemplate.
