Melaka: UMNO's political direction, including whether to cooperate with other parties or go solo in the Melaka state election, will be discussed at the UMNO Supreme Council (MT) meeting on Aug 28. UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan stated that the meeting, chaired by president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, would also focus on strategies to ensure Barisan Nasional's (BN) victory in the state election.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, no final decision has been made on BN or UMNO's political direction in Melaka, including potential cooperation with other parties. Discussions in the media and statements by several people, including UMNO leaders in Melaka, have highlighted possibilities of cooperation between BN and PH (Pakatan Harapan), as well as BN and PN (Perikatan Nasional).
The Deputy Works Minister emphasized the importance of adhering to the party's decisions regarding the Melaka state election. He noted that BN's political approach must consider the situation and suitability in each state. The mandate of the Melaka state government is set to expire on Dec 31.
BN currently governs the state after securing 21 of the 28 seats in the 15th Melaka state election, with PH holding five seats and PN holding two. The state executive council also includes PH assemblymen, reflecting the composition of the Unity Government at the federal level.
