Negeri sembilan: Interest in military uniforms can be used as a 'bridge' to bring the younger generation closer to the history of the struggle and sacrifices of previous security personnel in defending the country. Persatuan Peminat Sejarah Pahlawan (PSP) secretary Sergeant Ammar Kamaruddin said the approach was seen to be effective because interest in uniforms, especially among the younger generation, could be developed into an understanding of the history of the security forces and the struggle to defend the homeland.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ammar explained that through uniforms, history can be introduced, including insights into World War II and the forces involved. This method could nurture a deeper interest in history and instill a greater love for the country among the youth. The attraction to uniforms extends to children and their parents, who often visit displays of army, navy, and other military uniforms, sparking an interest that PSP leverages to educate them about historical events.
He mentioned that the association actively engages in various programs related to history and military events. These include celebrations like Heroes' Day and Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) Day, where they display uniforms and explain their historical significance and usage over different periods. Ammar, also a member of the Territorial Army, highlighted the benefits of a face-to-face approach, enabling the public to learn about the uniforms' historical context, including the specific years and forces associated with them.
The association boasts over 20 members from diverse backgrounds, including former military personnel, police, and private sector workers. Ammar noted that during the Negeri Sembilan National Day celebration, 17 members, including seven from the 1st Malaysian Infantry Brigade, participated in the parade, proudly wearing their uniforms. This participation is part of PSP's collaboration with the MAF and their commitment to enhancing such national events.
He emphasized the importance of introducing history to the younger generation to ensure the services and sacrifices of past security personnel are not forgotten. Many association members come from families with military backgrounds, where relatives had participated in significant operations, often leaving their families to fulfill their duties.
Ammar stressed the importance of the current generation understanding the struggles of the past, appreciating the efforts made to gain independence and maintain national harmony. He also noted the significant role played by the Orang Asli community in the country's defense history, a narrative that should not be overlooked.
In addition to participating in various programs, PSP contributes to military-related film productions by providing uniforms and references involving security forces, further aiding in the dissemination of historical knowledge.
