Kuala Lumpur:Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim extended his congratulations to the Universiti Malaya (UM) community for its groundbreaking achievement as the first Malaysian university to enter the top 200 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2027.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, UM secured the 194th position on the list, which highlights the university's excellence in teaching and research. This recognition boosts confidence in the ability of Malaysian higher education institutions to compete with the world's leading universities.
Anwar emphasized the importance of sustaining this excellence through a culture of knowledge, freedom of thought, and research that meets societal and national needs. He stated that universities should cultivate a generation that is sharp-minded, morally grounded, and bold in exploring new ideas.
He also expressed his hope that this achievement would inspire UM and other Malaysian higher education institutions to continue enhancing quality and academic prestige. The Prime Minister's remarks were shared in a Facebook post.
In the latest rankings, UM earned an overall score of 59.5 points, with Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) following at the 242nd position, achieving a score of 57.3 points.
