Kuala lumpur: The first phase of the Gaza ceasefire plan by United States president Donald Trump is an important step to restoring stability and reducing the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, the Malaysian Parliament's Palestine Caucus said. Its chairman, Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, stated that the caucus welcomed Hamas' acceptance of the plan, which is seen as a positive development toward achieving a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Syed Ibrahim highlighted that the agreement includes the withdrawal of occupation, the influx of humanitarian aid, and prisoner exchanges. He mentioned that the development aligns with the stand of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and opens up crucial opportunities to end the violence, oppression, and injustice faced by Palestinians. He emphasized that this would be a step toward lasting peace in the region.
Syed Ibrahim further added that the caucus reiterated Malaysia's ongoing commitment to the Palestinian people's struggle for self-determination and justice. He appreciated the government's diplomatic efforts in bolstering international solidarity on the issue. The caucus also urged the government to remain actively involved in all international and regional efforts to find an immediate and just solution to the conflict. He called on both sides, particularly Israel, to refrain from actions that could jeopardize the peace process or increase the suffering of the Palestinian people.
"As Members of Parliament, we stand strong in supporting all efforts that uphold the principles of peace, justice, and humanity," Syed Ibrahim stated. He stressed their unconditional support for the ongoing peace talks and the legal rights of the Palestinian people.
Hamas had previously announced that an agreement had been reached to end the conflict in Gaza, which included the withdrawal of occupying forces, the influx of humanitarian aid, and prisoner exchanges. This statement followed Trump's announcement that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of the Gaza peace plan by Washington.
