US Coast Guard trains OTS personnel on port security

MANILA: The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) and its security officers participated in the ‘Port Security Management Workshop’ hosted by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) to boost port security.

In a statement on Thursday, Transport Security Accreditation and Training Management Service (TSATMS) Director Rodelio Jocson said 25 OTS personnel joined the workshop from June 24 to 28 that served as a platform for an exchange of best practices in implementing the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code.

Jocson said maritime security (MARSEC) practitioners play a ‘critical role in safeguarding maritime trade routes, ensuring operational continuity, and contributing to global economic stability.’

‘As MARSEC practitioners, we hold the key to safeguarding the integrity of our ports and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of global trade and commerce,’ he said.

He said the ‘proactive measures and vigilance’ of MARSEC personnel are essential in maintaining the safety and security of port facilities
and their surrounding environment.

Aside from MARSEC practitioners, officers and personnel from the OTS TSATMS, Transportation Security Risk Management Service, Transportation Security Oversight and Compliance Service, and Transportation Security Policy and Program Service also joined the workshop.
