Vigneswaran Puts MIC’s Future In Delegates’ Hands

Shah alam: MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran has left it to the delegates attending the party's annual general meeting here today to determine MIC's future direction amid speculation that it might leave the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, of which it has been a component since BN was formed in 1973. In his policy address, he called on members to make decisions that ensure the party's continuity and strength.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Vigneswaran urged delegates to either make a decisive choice regarding the party's future or entrust the decision-making to the Central Working Committee and the top leadership. Addressing 1,808 delegates at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) Shah Alam, he emphasized the importance of their decision in determining the party's direction, strength, and relevance for the years to come.

Reflecting on MIC's historical journey within the Alliance coalition before it became part of BN, Vigneswaran highlighted the foundation of purpose, belief, and cooperation that defined the party's role in nation-building. He called upon members to embrace the legacy and move forward with gratitude, faith, and conviction, envisioning a new beginning for MIC that embodies courage and resilience.

Vigneswaran also emphasized the necessity for MIC leaders and grassroots members to engage with the youth by adopting their language and addressing their concerns. He noted the intelligence and outspokenness of young Malaysians, urging the party to adapt its messaging to resonate with them through popular platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, and podcasts.

Furthermore, he encouraged Wanita MIC to evolve into a national movement and advocacy body, offering support in legal matters, education, career guidance, and digital literacy, including cybersecurity training for women. He stressed the importance of justice, opportunity, and respect for Indian women, noting that their empowerment contributes to family stability and societal advancement.
