Pulau Ketam: Berjaya Corporation Bhd founder and adviser Tan Sri Vincent Tan has donated RM250,000 to support three local schools and five temples in Pulau Ketam, improving the quality of life for the island’s residents. He expressed his pleasure at being there for the first time and he was happy to make the donation, hoping it will help foster the continued development of local schools, support community associations, and enhance the well-being of the elderly residents.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tan emphasized the significance of education as a cornerstone for a prosperous future, expressing his aspiration to help build a stronger and more connected community. In a statement released during his visit, he highlighted the importance of education and community support in fostering development.
During his visit, Tan mentioned that his trip coincided with his good friend, Tan Sri Lim Kuang Sia, the managing director and group chief executive officer of Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd, who has roots in Pulau Ketam. Tan recounted Lim’s early life experiences as a fisherman with his father, before Lim decided to pursue further education, which led to his current success and influential role in Kossan Rubber Industries.
Tan also noted the increasing interest from both local and international tourists in Pulau Ketam, drawn by its unique attractions, such as homestays and hotels. He pointed out that the island is a popular tourist destination in Selangor, especially appealing to Chinese and Japanese visitors for its fresh seafood, which is available in a variety of preparations.
The visit, which coincided with the joyful celebrations of the Lunar New Year, aimed at spreading warmth and enhancing the well-being of those in need on the island. The event featured a range of delightful activities, including lion dances, performances of popular Chinese New Year songs, and a prize presentation ceremony for local students who excelled in a calligraphy competition.
