Visitors Able To Scan Gold Purity Of Jewellery At Kelantan PMR 2025

Kuala lumpur: Visitors to the Kelantan MADANI Rakyat Programme 2025 will be able to scan and determine the purity of gold in their jewellery using the scanning machine provided by the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, SIRIM corporate communications division senior executive, Mohd Zul Arsham Mohamad, mentioned that the machine has been specially brought to the programme as Kelantanese women are known collectors of jewellery. This initiative allows visitors to confirm the actual purity and weight of the gold in their purchased items.

Mohd Zul Arsham Mohamad stated that typically, such machines are available only in certain premises and not in jewellery shops due to their cost. Therefore, those who wish to verify the purity of gold can visit the SIRIM booth throughout the three days of the PMR. Visitors can also take photos of the analysis results displayed on the machine for reference or for sale transparency. These results could enable consumers to seek compensation from jewellery shops if there are discrepancies in weight or purity.

He added that currently, gold sold in Kelantan and Terengganu is found to have higher purity compared to other states.

Visitor Fatin Nabila Anuar, 38, expressed that the service by SIRIM was beneficial as it allows women to choose honest shops. Knowing the gold content in the jewellery they purchase helps them choose shops that are accurate and avoid falling victim to fraud.

The three-day Kelantan PMR 2025 that ends tomorrow is organized by the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (MOSTI) in partnership with the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department and supported by various ministries and government agencies.
