Pahang: The Pahang government's projection to turn the state into a national food hub is being realised through the success of AGK Dairy Fresh Sdn Bhd which now owns more than 300 wagyu cattle. Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the achievement makes Pahang the state with the highest number of wagyu cattle in Malaysia.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, there are currently 300 heads of Wagyu cattle. Pahang Menteri Besar expressed optimism that within two years, the number could reach 1,000, with the state government pledging its support. This announcement was made during his visit to the AGK Dairy Fresh Ruminant Livestock Farm in Bukit Kajang.
The state is set to continue its efforts in the wagyu farming project by expanding it to West Pahang. Trials for breeding wagyu cattle have been conducted successfully, and the climate has proven to be suitable. Initial efforts began in Bukit Kajang and Kampung Tanjung Gahai in Kuala Lipis, prompting further studies by the Land and Mines Office for potential expansion in Benta.
In addition to cattle farming, AGK Dairy Fresh Sdn Bhd also produces fresh milk and cheese, contributing to its profitability. The company has been encouraged to expedite its plans to transform the livestock farm into an agro-tourism centre, aimed at attracting both domestic and international tourists.
Visitors to the Wagyu farm can experience a unique attraction that might remind them of similar setups in Australia or other countries, enhancing the farm's appeal as a tourist destination.
