Wan Azizah Calls For Holistic Efforts To Curb Teen Bullying

Kuala lumpur: The growing concern over bullying among teenagers must be addressed urgently through holistic efforts involving families, schools and the wider community, Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said. She said mental health problems can stem from various factors, but bullying has emerged as the most pressing issue in recent times.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Wan Azizah questioned the current state of societal values and expressed concern over the prevalence of bullying among children. She emphasized the importance of nurturing noble character, kind speech, empathy, and compassion. Her remarks were made during the officiation of the Bandar Tun Razak 2025 Mental Health Awareness Programme 'Suka dalam Duka' (Joy in Sorrow), attended by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar.

The event gathered over 150 participants from the B40 group, including students, single mothers, and new converts, featuring activities such as mental health talks, screening sessions, and counselling interventions scheduled to run until November. Dr Wan Azizah also urged individuals facing mental health challenges to seek assistance through proper channels, highlighting services like 'Talian Kasih' and 'Talian Heal.'

Dr Wan Azizah encouraged residents of Bandar Tun Razak to offer support and empathy to those experiencing mental health issues. Meanwhile, Mohd Na'im highlighted the value of 'ihsan' (compassion) in Malaysian MADANI society, particularly through the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia's (JAKIM) KSK Care Centre initiative at selected mosques and suraus.

Mohd Na'im stated that these centres aim to enhance the role of mosques beyond places of worship, serving as hubs for psycho-spiritual support and complementing physical and mental interventions in tackling mental health problems. He urged imams and mosques to actively participate in encouraging local residents to utilize existing programs to address mental health challenges.
