Water Supply Temporarily Restored in Hilir Perak and Batang Padang: LAP

Perak: The Perak Water Board (LAP) has temporarily restored water supply to several areas in the Hilir Perak district, following a week-long disruption. The restoration began at 8 pm yesterday and is being implemented in stages.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the LAP announced via its Facebook page that the supply from the LAP pond will cease once the pond is depleted, urging consumers to store ample water in preparation. The affected areas include Kampung Padang Tembak, Kampung Selabak, Kampung Banjar, Jalan Banjar, and several others.

The Bukit Temoh Water Treatment Plant has resumed operations at half its capacity, utilizing the reactivated 900mm raw water pipeline from the Batu 10 intake. The LAP stated that the water treatment process is ongoing and treated water will be distributed to refill main storage tanks. This process will take time to stabilize before reaching consumers.

To ensure equitable distribution, the LAP has implemented temporary rotational water supply rationing for the districts of Batang Padang and Hilir Perak since early yesterday. The LAP is monitoring the plant's operations and aims to gradually increase production capacity.

State Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee chairman, Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, noted that the disruption, affecting 50,000 account users since February 6, was due to leaks in underground pipes. These pipes, owned by LAP, transport raw water to the Bukit Temoh plant, located near Taman Bunga Raya, Tapah. The leaks were attributed to soil movement, which also caused structural damage to some houses in the area.
