Kuala lumpur: The impact of the West Asian conflict on foreign tourist arrivals to Malaysia and the readiness of assets and personnel of security agencies in Langkawi in addressing the threat of smuggling activities of migrants are among the focus of today's Dewan Rakyat sitting.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Order Paper published on the official Parliament website highlights that Dr Ahmad Fakhruddin Fakhrurazi (PN-Kuala Kedah) will inquire with the Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister regarding the effects of the West Asian conflict on the number of foreign tourist arrivals to Malaysia. The inquiry particularly focuses on arrivals from the Middle Eastern, European, and West Asian markets, as well as the government's strategies to maintain growth in the tourism sector.
Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (PN-Langkawi) is set to question the Home Minister about the preparedness of security agency assets and personnel in Langkawi. The focus will be on addressing the threat of smuggling activities of migrants or controlled goods, and territorial waters intrusion, given Langkawi's proximity to the Malaysia-Thailand border. The query also includes whether the ministry plans to implement drone assets (UAVs) as previously applied.
Manndzri Nasib (BN-Tenggara) will seek information from the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister about the effectiveness of additional Ecological Fiscal Transfer (EFT) funds and PERHILITAN community programs in mitigating human-elephant conflict. There will be emphasis on the Ministry's strategy with relevant agencies to expand the use of Electric Fencing for Elephants (SPEG) to ensure the safety of local residents.
Additionally, Datuk Willie anak Mongin (GPS-Puncak Borneo) intends to ask the Housing and Local Government Minister about the number of unsold affordable homes by state and price category, alongside the actual rate of home ownership among young people under the age of 35 by state and Parliamentary constituency.
Moreover, the session will see the second reading of two bills: the Sexual Offences against Children (Amendment) Bill 2026 and the Employment Insurance System (Amendment) Bill 2025. The current Parliament sitting is scheduled to continue for 16 days until July 16.
