Kathmandu: The wife of a Fire and Rescue Department Special Air Unit officer, who was reported missing in Nepal, flew to Kathmandu today to seek an update on the search for her husband. Hani Othman said she had decided to travel to Nepal alone to get the latest updates on efforts to find those missing there, saying she did not want to stay at home.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hani expressed her determination to take action herself because she could not bear to remain idle. "I am travelling alone, but I have friends and my husband's acquaintances there who are ready to help. The Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu has also been informed of my arrival," she stated. Her husband, Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Fakhrul Munir Mohd Isa, known as Loe, went missing during a climbing expedition in Nepal along with Fire and Rescue Department deputy director of the Fire and Rescue Operations Division Mohd Sani Harul.

Hani mentioned that her family and close friends continued to hold special prayers for the safety and wellbeing of her husband and others who are missing. Prior to his disappearance, Mohd Fakhrul Munir had shared his thoughts on the dangers of extreme mountaineering and reflected on previous mountaineering tragedies in a social media post.

In a related incident, M Vasanthi, 51, expressed her concern for her sister, M Venilla, 52, who was traveling to Mount Kailash in Tibet, China, when the incident occurred. Vasanthi revealed that Venilla has not been contacted since. "I am lost for words. I want my sister to return home safely. Her children and I are constantly praying for her safety," she said.

Vasanthi further explained the emotional impact the situation has had on her sister's three children, who are struggling to cope. She has decided to stay with them at her sister's home in Puchong to provide support during this challenging time. Vasanthi last spoke to her sister via video call, during which Venilla appeared content despite being tired.

The Foreign Ministry reported that 57 Malaysians remained uncontactable following the significant floods that struck Nepal. This figure was compiled based on information from family members, friends, and employers as of 11 pm on Aug 27.
