Klang: The Sessions Court today fined a 60-year-old woman RM75,000 for bribing a Department of Environment (DOE) officer to turn a blind eye to her illegal e-waste operation last year. Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud handed down the sentence against Chan Suit Seong after she pleaded guilty to the corruption charge. She also faces two years' imprisonment should she fail to pay the fine.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, under an alternative charge, Chan was accused of corruptly giving RM15,000 to a senior environmental officer to stop him from taking legal action against her unlicensed e-waste premises, a violation of the Environmental Quality Act 1974. The offence was committed at three plots of land in Revolusi Hijau Batu, Johan Setia, Klang, at around 12.30 pm on Feb 25, 2025.

She was charged under Section 214 of the Penal Code (Act 574), which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction. The prosecution was conducted by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecuting officer Muhammad Arif Asyraf Mohd Khairi, while the accused was represented by lawyer S. Preakas.

The court also ordered the seized RM15,000 bribe to be forfeited to the Malaysian government through the MACC chief commissioner. The case is part of enforcement actions carried out under Ops Nature 6.0 by the Selangor MACC.
